CONGRATULATIONS TO VILNIUS – GROW FURTHER BY INVESTING IN HIGH VALUE ADDED PROJECTS

On January 25th Vilnius celebrates its 698th birthday. Lithuanian Business Support Agency (LVPA) congratulates Vilnius, which grows fast and is one of European future cities. Although this year we can not get together, this does not reduce willingness to celebrate achievements of capital city and to review perennial partnership with companies working in Vilnius.

Fast growing European city, one of the leaders in attracting foreign direct investment, Vilnius demonstrates clear economic potential and has strong human resources notifies fDi Intelligence, part of Financial Times, in its report Future European Cities and Regions.

ITC, blockchain tecnologies, finance, esecially fintech, gaming, electronics, lasers, biotech and business services are mentioned among main drivers of growth.

LVPA clients actively invest in those sectors. Vilnius based companies received more than EUR 562 m of EU subsidies during the 2014-2020 finacial period. Most of the funds – EUR almost EUR 274 m -went to R&D projects. Energy sector got more than EUR 200 m in subsidies, business projects – 74 m, tourism – 13 m. 

„Vilnius city stands out because of number of projects, as well as concentration of high value added, most of the money goes to R&D, renewable energy, digitization projects. We appreciate that Vilnius based businesses allocate large amount of resources in search of new knowledge and ways to apply it“, – emphasizes LVPA director Aurimas Želvys.

Largest projects currently under implementation are Biotechparma‘s biotech project with EU investment of more than EUR 9 m and digital innovation hub project by company Pažangios Inovacijos, which receives EUR 5.8 m EU subsidy.
